Ledford Family History
This is an English surname. Recorded as Ledford, Ludford and Lodford, and possibly having an overlap with Lydford, a Somerset and Devonshire surname, it is locational from either of two places called Ludford in the counties of Shropshire and Lincoln, where in the latter county it is divided into Magna Ludford and Parva Ludford. In all cases the prefix is a reference to a river, and appears to originate from the Ancient British (pre Roman) word "hlude" meaning loud or perhaps fast flowing, with "forda", a shallow river crossing.Select Audience

		Ledford

My dad's family was from a mining town in Kentucky all coal miners or bootleggers who hid out in the woods also was told that the Franklin Ledford in 1700 in NY was also known too be affiliated too the IRA and was possibly sent here too apprehend someone or too find his son or another man assuming as his son named Sean Ledford who was also here on assignment was told possibly too attain woodlands for the IRA too e stablish here in America as all woodlands were tightly patrolled in England

		Franklin Ledford
I traced it back too Lydford castle Devonshire there was a marriage of 3 people a marriage of two Lydford brothers Franklin and a Eugene married a woman named Angela Ledford they lived in Devonshire but instead of marrrying in the Lydford church they drove too a church in England around 1600s too be married I was also told the curious thing was the name Ledford wasn't created till after the transfer too America in the 1700s so her name was 100 years early
So she's either a time traveler or the records were changed or submitted after coming too America in 1700 strange
After coming too America a Franklin Ledford came thru ny looking for a son named Sean Ledford he dissapeared then reappeared on paper in 1740 something in ky then dissapeared again and reappeared in 1790 or so in South Carolina and North Carolina under 3 households I was told people took the names of dead people and restart thier lives under assumed names and only the head of household is titled under sensus so every household member was given the name Ledford even if they were just servants or slaves no record of a Sean Ledford were found but 1 in NY in 1720s
This is my findings and nothing adds up or makes sense
Other than my dad was born in Kentucky
My uncle resisted in North Carolina
I live in North Carolina
Lydford castle was natorious for the persecution of miners in England they went on strike and fled too the woods too live in colonies any man woman or child found in the woods were arrested convicted then tryed as deserters the myth was there was a wealthy Lady who fed them gave them supplies and hid them she was later caught and thrown from a waterfall in Devonshire and still haunts the woods and can still be seen wandering the waterfall curious enough where dads from has similar stories
Just sayin it's very curious the similarities centuries later

I'm not sure about the others and my mother always said that the "Lee" side was supposedly Black Irish,
the Ludfords were English but when I went to Dublin ... there is a "sub-division" outside of the city referred to as Ludford... the Anglo -Irish. The more I look, the more confused I am... I live in Virginia USA but immediate family are mostly in North Carolina. Any news or info welcomed.
