LOGAN Family History
Recorded as de Logan, O' Logan, Logan, and Lagan, this famous Gaelic surname is confusingly both Scottish and Irish, and in both countries may also have a Norman origin! It is generally considered in Ireland to derive from the Gaelic O'Leoghain, translating as 'the son of the descendant of the Warrior', and this is probably so with many nameholders. However there is also a claim that it is recorded as 'de Logan' in Normandy, even before the 1066 Invasion of England, and that these 'de Logans' accompanied Strongbow, Earl of Pembroke, on his 1170 invasion of Ireland. To further add to the confusion there are several places in Scotland called Logan, and it is possible that some of these may have Norman ancestry...Select Audience

Searching for the parents of Margret Logan, married James Peterkin and had her first son George Peterkin in Troy, New York in 1868, then moved to Farragut, Iowa and had 10 more children there. DIED IN 1885 AT THE AGE OF ONLY 37 leaving 11 children behind. She, as well as her parents, were born in Ireland and she must have immigrated to the USA or possibly Canada before 1867.

Looking for any information on my GGF Hugh Logan born Newtonstewart Co. Tyrone abt 1842. He left Ireland & settled in Jarrow England ( now Tyne & Wear but previously classed as Durham) He married Mary Agnes Manley from Co. Mayo ( donโt know if this was in Ireland or England) Family lore says they may have met on the boat to England. Hugh also had a brother David who was a Minister & settled in Scotland. Can anyone help find out any info as myself & my brother have struggled for several years & would dearly love to complete this branch of our tree for our 86 year old mother. Thanks

(Part 1 of 3) The Logan name can be found in Scotland, but its origin according to DNA is from the north-west coast of the Emerald Island. The Logan story [dominated by DNA tribal marker R1b-L513, Subgroup A1] can trace their origins to the Finn Valley in Donegal, Ireland from 50 BCE. Perhaps the journey begins with the Clanna Dedad; Deda, son of Sen or Deda Mac Sin. The Logan surname origin is from a Northern Ui Neill [R1b-L513] tribe. The Cenรฉl Eoghan and the tribes of Donegal conquered much of Ulster (Derry and Tyrone).
